Blog Action Day 2009: Climate Change

It’s getting cold in the Washington, DC area, and when I pick my husband up from the bus stop he likes the car to feel warm. So, I used to leave the car running until he’d arrive 15-20 minutes later. And, knowing that I would just be sitting in the car, I would just wear my slippers and a light jacket.

Well, a very good friend of mine (Laura Allen) educated me to the fact that not only was I wasting gas, but I was adding to the pollution. Now, I dress appropriately for the weather. I arrive closer to the time I need to meet him, so I don’t run the car engine at all.  I’m doing my bit to improve our climate conditions.

Disappearing Act!

I took a self-imposed break from blogging, mostly due to my inability to keep up with my crazy travel schedule. Then my business took a serious nose dive, and I lost it for a minute. Thank God I found my way back, and my business is on the upswing again.

I have given my blog a lot of thought over these last couple of months. My original intention was to only address items of interest to newly established nonprofits, or those considering starting a nonprofit. Well, that doesn’t work for me any longer. I want to use this platform to share my observations, ideas, thoughts, and even brainstorm with you ways to make your nonprofit successful. I also intend to blog weekly! This new format may allow me to blog more often, we’ll see.

So no more crying over spilt milk; please check back often for updates.

Happy Anniversary NPC

Nonprofit Connectors (affectionately called NPC) is a year old this month! It’s been an amazing journey to see my business go from a thought at Stacy Brice’s What’s Next to the reality it is today.

We experienced a huge setback early this year, when our community portal crashed, and we were unable to save it. However, we do have it on the planning board to re-introduce it the upcoming year. The community portal will be another place for support and building relationships with other nonprofit organizations.

Another great accomplishment has been the submittal of three articles posted on several article submission sites. The upcoming year finds me writing at least six more articles specifically for individuals starting nonprofit organizations. We moved the website to the TypePad site. So, you’ll see very nice buttons on the side bar (thank Jon Nix) that allow you to access the web pages. In addition, NPC has had the pleasure of helping individuals complete the 1023 form and attachments.

Out upcoming goals the first quarter of the new year include: writing six articles, assisting at least six clients with the start up process, and finalizing a resource tool we’ve been working on to help individuals start their nonprofit.

Things change constantly in such a regulated industry as the not-for-profit one. So how are you keeping up with the changes?

I read not just for updates and changes to the industry, but also for a sense of the flair of the people working within the industry. My favorite example of style and flair is the White Courtesy Telephone. Their wit and humor makes their approach to these serious issues interesting, apparent, and clear.

Nonprofit Blog Exchange Virtual Event – Perspectives from the Pipeline

This is Nonprofit Blog Exchange Virtual Event Month. This month there is a group of over 200 nonprofit bloggers promoting one another on their blogs. We are spreading the word about what others are saying in the blog world about the nonprofit sector.

It is my pleasure to post about Perspectives from the Pipeline. Rosetta writes to the individual that is looking to work for a nonprofit. She shares tips, resources, and how to’s to be successful in their nonprofit career.

One of the things I found fascinating about Rosetta’s blog, she’s very candid and shares all aspects of her experiences with interested readers. She has held nothing back. So, if you are a looking to work for a nonprofit, then you really need to check out her blog.

I think it is cool that I was selected to post about her, because our blogs really compliment each other. I help people who want to start a nonprofit, and she advises people who are looking for nonprofit employment.

New additions

Perhaps you've noticed already that Nonprofit Connectors has added Showcases to the sidebars. The Showcases highlight books and blogs that are helpful for those starting a nonprofit. While the Nonprofit Showcase, is just my way of introducing you to a few nonprofits.
